Tomb Raider 2013 story starts with Lara getting ready to go on her first expedition to search for the lost Yamatai kingdom. Then all kinds of troubles start happening with the ship she was on: they change the route, and then storm destroys the ship leaving Lara on an unknown island. That’s where her adventures begin: after exploring the island she and other survivors realize they actually got to the right destination and after that the fight with island’s inhabitants began. Lara gets captured by them, then escapes and the cycle goes on and on until she finally blows the opportunity to sail back home with her friends and decided to stay on the island and continue the adventure.
The island is full of myths and unresolved mysteries and it’s very entertaining to explore. Lara starts her journey with no armory, tools or any other useful gadgets. She will have to unlock them as the game progresses. Whenever she finds new weapons or tools, the game becomes more fun to play as new elements bring more options to the combat.
The only disappointing part about Tomb Raider 2013 is the multiplayer that comes completely undeveloped compared to spectacular well thought campaign adventure. It consist of four game types total: Rescue one where the team has to recover all medical supplies and prevent the opponents from destroying them; Team Deathmatch where the opponents try to fight each other and the tem with the highest score wins; Free For All where players are offered to kill a certain amount of enemies before time runs out; and Cry For Help where Survivors have to activate radio transmitters and make sure the opponents won’t get them.
Therefore multiplayer doesn’t bring much to the table and the goals and a plot are pretty boring, but it’s a good extension to the adventure in general.
To conclude, Tomb Raider 2013 is a spectacular well-written action adventure game with awesome narrative and a variety of options to choose from. A must have!
