Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter video game. It is the sequel to Valve Corporation's award-winning Left 4 Dead. The game launched on November 17, 2009, for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in the United States and November 20 in Europe. The game made its world premiere at E3 2009 with a trailer during the Microsoft press event.
Left 4 Dead 2 is a much more complete version of the original Left 4 Dead and after you have played Left 4 Dead 2, it's difficult to go back to the original without a mild sense of disappointment. Left 4 Dead 2 has five full and more interesting campaigns, a more fleshed out and distinctive setting with some fantastic action set pieces, more personality, more modes, and in general gives a player more to do. For those who are not familiar with the first game in the series, It's the zombie apocalypse, and you play as one of four human Survivors who attempt to shoot their way through hordes of fast-moving "infected" to get to the end of a map. The sequel is set in the American southeast and the new cast of characters is more memorable this time around, as they seem more aware of their situation, chattering away and commenting on specific parts of the environment as they battle through. Left 4 Dead 2 forces players to work as a team with everyone equally participating. no stage ever plays out the same way, because there's an artificial intelligence called the Director governing the action. An artificial intelligence called the Director governs the game thus making every experience different every time and encourages repeat play as it adapts to challenge players of any skill level. The versus mode in which players get to play as Zombie is avilable in Left 4 Dead as well, just it is much more entertaining and this time around.
Left 4 Dead 2 received strong positive reviews from game journalists, praising the changes made with the new melee weapons and firearms, the new strategies introduced through the new special infected, and the details of the southern locale and individual campaigns compared with the campaigns of the first game. Among other distinctive features of the game, its replayability and the attention put in every detail were complimented as well.
Left 4 Dead 2 received the Best Xbox 360 Game award at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards. The game has been nominated for the "Outstanding Achievement in Game Play Engineering", "Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play", and "Action Game of the Year" Interactive Achievement Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.
On December 1, 2009, Valve reported that more than two million retailed copies of Left 4 Dead 2 were sold in two weeks, which represents "more than double" the sales of the original game's two week debut. According to the NPD Group, the Xbox 360 version was the fifth best-selling retail title for consoles in November 2009, with over 744,000 copies sold. In February 2010, Electronic Arts, Left 4 Dead 2 retail distributor, revealed that the game had sold 2.9 million on retail so far while Forbes wrote that more than 4 million copies were sold at stores in 2009.
To conclude, Left 4 Dead 2 is one of the most distinctive co-operative titles out there, and allows for some of the most nerve-searing team-based multiplayer gaming on the market.
